Issue Positions

For Presidential and Congressional candidates who refuse to provide voters with their positions, Vote Smart has researched their public records to determine their likely responses. These issue positions are from 2022.

  • "Jan supports reproductive freedom. Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and must remain so. In addition to being safe and legal, Jan believes that abortions should also be rare. The primary emphasis must be on education and prevention of unwanted pregnancies." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Pro-choice. I also support funding Planned Parenthood." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Jan will be a strong advocate for protecting and enhancing Medicare for present and future seniors." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Social Security is and should remain the ultimate "safety net" for present and future generations of seniors. Jan is committed to protecting the system and restoring its financial health." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "On the other hand, expanding Medicare (or a scaled-down Medicare), a social insurance program, progressively to cover younger age groups on a voluntary basis seems the least disruptive and most promising path to achieving universal health insurance, reductions in the costs of American healthcare and a healthier population. Jan favors pilot programs to this end. In any event, it should go without saying that any and all remedial measures must include continuing and expanding efforts to cut down the fraud, waste and abuse that plague the system at healthcare provider levels." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Our federal and state governments are for sale -- at huge price tags. Jan Schneider supports revival of reasonable campaign finance limits to restore democracy." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Ultra-wealthy individuals and corporations are spending huge amounts of dark money undermining our democracy." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Despite exhaustive research, Vote Smart was unable to find information about this candidate's position.
  • "The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is far too generous to the ultra-rich and wealthy corporations. The boons come at the expense of working families and vital social programs. The United States already spends more on defense than the next seven countries combined. This includes China and Russia." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Broader measures are also necessary to keep the economy robust and ensure sufficient jobs for a growing population. We need to invest in our workforce, with good public schools, universities and technical training. Investing in replacement of aging infrastructure -- bridges, roads, mass transit, ports and even internet technology -- is not only essential in its own right, but will also facilitate getting manufactured goods to markets and bolster American competitiveness. The same can be said of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and increasing reliance on renewable energy sources." (justfacts.votesmart.org)

  • "The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 addresses such issues. Among other things, the IRA imposes a corporate minimum tax of 15%, introduces a 1% fee on corporate stock buybacks, increases Internal Revenue Service enforcement capabilities, extends the tax limitation on excess losses for pass-through businesses, and reforms prescription drug pricing. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the IRA will result in a net deficit decrease, after adjustment for additional revenue, of around $300 billion through 2031." • "Jan is a strong advocate for accelerated transitions to clean and renewable energy sources, reduced American and global dependence on fossil fuels and consistent implementation of the "polluter pays" principle. It is past time to stop new offshore oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Six years after the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, the Gulf is still suffering grave environmental aftereffects. Jan has for decades opposed drilling in the Arctic, especially in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), one of the last pristine wildernesses. She continues to oppose the Keystone XL Pipeline, Phase IV of the Canada-U.S. Keystone Pipeline system, which was rejected by the Obama Administration in late 2015." (justfacts.votesmart.org)

  • "Jan opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) for its lack of environmental as well as labor protections. In the 6,000 pages of the TPP, neither "climate change" nor "global warming" is mentioned. Worse, the TPP has the potential to add fuel to the climate crisis. The Sierra Club has pointed out several problems in this regard. The TP would, among other problems, allow companies to attack climate policies in private tribunals, require the U.S. Department of Energy to approve all exports of liquefied natural gas and thereby increase dependence on a fuel with high greenhouse emissions, increase emissions that cause global warming and even restrict government efforts to combat climate change." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was signed into law on June 25, 2022 after more than 25 years of inaction on gun safety. Jan Schneider deems the new law an encouraging but weak start; it did not require universal background checks, ban assault weapons or large-capacity magazines or enact other commonsense measures needed to reduce gun violence." (www.votejan.com)
  • "Under Medicare-for-All, also known as Single-Payer National Health Insurance, essentially the federal government would administer healthcare financing with delivery of care remaining private or locally-controlled. Jan Schneider favors transitioning to Medicare-for-All, to ensure high quality, universal healthcare coverage. Vern Buchanan (RFL16) wants the opposite, to get rid of the Affordable Care Act and convert Medicare itself into a “premium support” a/k/a voucher system." (www.votejan.com)

  • "Jan is for increased border security through modern measures, not an ineffective wall. She supports immigration policy including a path to permanent legal status and/or citizenship for the estimated 11.5 million undocumented immigrants already in this country." (www.votejan.com)
  • "This is not a yes-or-no question, in my opinion. I support a path to citizenship for Dreamers and allowing those to stay who qualify for asylum." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Three years ago, the Senate passed the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act (S. 744), a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill. This bill would have provided a path to citizenship for many undocumented immigrants. It would also have doubled the number of border agents to 40,000, added 700 miles of fencing on the southern border and even expanded use of drones to patrol the border. No one liked the bill; many supported it. Jan Schneider agrees with both and would grudgingly support similar legislation in the House of Representatives." (justfacts.votesmart.org)

  • "Another vital issue is promotion of fair trade, rather than just free trade. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), signed by the United States and eleven other Pacific Rim countries on February 4, 2016, would hamper creation of American jobs as well as undermine environmental protections. Its entry into force would benefit multinational corporations, foreign investors, pharmaceutical monopolies and other elites -- at the expense of working families." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
